Description
The Samura Reptile utility knife with engraving is a versatile, medium-sized knife with a 168 mm blade, the engraved version of the standard model. It is made for the everyday jobs that need more precision and control than a larger knife gives you: slicing vegetables and fruit, cutting sandwiches, and slicing cheese and sausage. The blade is AUS-10 stainless steel with a convex edge, and the ribbed handle is stainless steel as well.
Blade and steel
The single-layer blade is AUS-10 stainless steel, hardened to 59–61 HRC. At this hardness the edge stays sharp for a long time between sharpenings. In return, it asks for a little care: keep it away from bones, frozen food and glass boards. AUS-10 is a corrosion-resistant stainless steel, so the knife stays in good condition when you wash and dry it soon after use.
The convex edge follows the Reptile series design: the bevel is gently rounded instead of ground flat. The blade carries a satin finish.
Handle and balance
The handle is silver stainless steel with the ribbed shape that marks the Reptile series. SAMURA describes the series as ultra-light, and together with the ribbed grip this lets the knife sit comfortably in your hand. The medium-sized blade is easy to guide and control. The knife weighs 110 g net and is 315 mm long overall.
Best uses
- Slicing and dicing vegetables
- Cutting and slicing fruit
- Cutting bread and sandwiches
- Slicing cheese
- Slicing sausage
Care and sharpening
Before first use, rinse the knife in hot water and wipe it dry. Wash it by hand with non-abrasive materials and dry it straight away; a dishwasher is not recommended, and the knife should not sit in the sink for long. Work on wooden or plastic boards rather than glass, use a SAMURA cleaver for bones and a double-sided saw knife with a serrated blade for frozen food, and store the knife in a brush block or knife holder where the blade does not touch metal items. Between sharpenings, use a honing rod, and when the edge needs more, sharpen it on a whetstone at the original factory bevel angle of 15–17°.
About the Reptile series
The Reptile series takes its inspiration from the Mesozoic era, when giant reptiles roamed the Earth, and SAMURA calls it a marriage between heritage and contemporary design. Every knife in the series combines an AUS-10 stainless steel blade with a ribbed stainless steel handle, and like all SAMURA knives, it comes with a 2-year warranty.
