Description
The Samura Reptile chef's knife is an all-round kitchen knife with a 200 mm blade. It covers everyday prep, from slicing meat and portioning fish to chopping vegetables, cutting fruit and slicing bread. The blade is AUS-10 stainless steel with a convex edge, and the ribbed handle is stainless steel.
Blade and steel
The blade is made from a single layer of AUS-10 stainless steel, hardened to 59–61 HRC. A hard blade holds its edge for a long time, so you spend more time cutting and less time sharpening. AUS-10 is a corrosion-resistant stainless steel, and it stays in good condition when you wash and dry the knife soon after use.
The edge has the convex sharpening of the Reptile series: the bevel is gently rounded rather than ground flat. The blade is 200 mm long and 47 mm high, with a satin finish.
Handle and balance
The silver handle is made of stainless steel and has the ribbed shape that marks the Reptile series. The series is designed around an ultra-light weight, and together with the ribbed handle this lets the knife sit comfortably in your hand. It weighs 138 g net and measures 346 mm overall.
Best uses
- Slicing and portioning boneless meat
- Cutting and portioning fish
- Chopping vegetables and dicing onions
- Slicing and cutting fruit
- Cutting bread
Care and sharpening
Rinse the knife with hot water and wipe it dry before first use. After that, wash it by hand with non-abrasive materials and wipe it dry; a dishwasher is not recommended, and the knife should not be left in the sink for long. Cut on wooden or plastic boards, never on glass, leave bones to a SAMURA cleaver and frozen food to a double-sided saw knife with a serrated blade, and store the knife in a brush block or knife holder where the blade does not touch metal items. Use a honing rod between sharpenings and sharpen on a whetstone at the original factory bevel angle of 15–17°.
About the Reptile series
The Reptile series is inspired by the Mesozoic era, when giant reptiles roamed the Earth, and brings heritage and contemporary design together. Its knives pair AUS-10 stainless steel blades with ribbed stainless steel handles, and like all SAMURA knives they come with a 2-year warranty.
