The details

A closer look

The Samura Damascus tomato knife is a specialised knife with a serrated 120 mm blade. It is made for slicing tomatoes, and it also suits other juicy fruit and vegetables with a firm skin and a tender middle. The blade is made from 67 layers of Damascus steel and paired with a black G-10 handle.

Blade and steel

The blade is made from 67 layers of Damascus steel and hardened to 60–61 HRC. A hard blade holds its edge for a long time, so the knife stays ready for use through many meals. In return, a hard edge asks for a little care: keep it away from bones, frozen food and glass surfaces.

The serrated edge and the relatively small blade are what make this a tomato knife. The teeth get through dense skin easily without pressing down hard on the soft flesh inside, a geometry suited to careful, delicate cutting of juicy produce.

Handle and balance

The ergonomic black G-10 handle meets the blade at a stainless steel bolster. SAMURA designs this handle and bolster combination to give you full control as you cut. The knife measures 243 mm overall.

Best uses

  • Slicing tomatoes for salads and sandwiches
  • Cutting tomatoes into wedges
  • Cutting other juicy fruit and vegetables with a firm skin and a tender middle

Care and sharpening

Rinse the knife with hot water and wipe it dry before first use. Wash it by hand with non-abrasive materials and dry it after each use; a dishwasher is not recommended, and the knife should not be left in the sink for long. Cut on wooden or plastic boards, never on glass, and store the knife in a brush block or knife holder where the blade does not touch metal items. When the serrated edge needs sharpening, keep to the original factory sharpening angle of 16–18°.

Care & sharpening

Keep it sharp

  • Before first use, rinse with hot water and wipe dry.
  • Use only on wooden or plastic cutting boards, never on glass.
  • Take care with food that contains bones: use a SAMURA cleaver for meat and bones and a double-sided saw knife with a serrated blade for frozen food.
  • Clean by hand with non-abrasive materials and wipe dry. A dishwasher is not recommended.
  • Do not leave knives in the sink for a long time.
  • Store in a brush block or knife holder so that the blade does not touch metal items.
  • Sharpen on a whetstone and keep the original factory sharpening angle of this blade (16–18°). Use a honing rod between sharpenings, moving the edge along the rod from the handle to the point.
  • Never test sharpness with bare hands; use a piece of paper.
