Description
The Samura Inca knife set brings together three ceramic knives for everyday slicing and cutting: a 155 mm utility knife, a 165 mm nakiri and a 187 mm chef's knife. Each has its own job, from fruit and soft cheese to vegetables, boneless meat and fish fillets. All three have white zirconia ceramic blades and ABS plastic handles with a TPR soft-touch coating.
Blades and material
The blades are made of white zirconia ceramic, which SAMURA describes as resistant to oxidation. Ceramic asks for a different routine from steel: it is meant for slicing and cutting rather than chopping, and it can chip or split if it is dropped on a hard surface.
Each knife has a double-bevel edge: a standard V-edge, ground on both sides of the blade.
Handle and balance
All three handles are made of ABS plastic with a TPR soft-touch coating. SAMURA describes Inca knives as soft to hold and very light, with coated handles that give you a confident grip. Together, the three knives weigh 341 g net.
Best uses
- Cutting fruit and vegetables with the utility knife
- Slicing cheese and sausage with the utility knife, except hard cheese, summer sausage and dry salami
- Slicing and dicing vegetables with the nakiri
- Slicing and portioning boneless meat and fish fillets with the chef's knife
- Slicing bread with the chef's knife or the utility knife
What's in the set
- Utility knife 155 mm
- Nakiri knife 165 mm
- Chef's knife 187 mm
Care and sharpening
Rinse the knives with hot water and wipe them dry before first use, then wash them by hand with non-abrasive materials and dry them; a dishwasher is not recommended, and they should not be left in the sink for long. Cut on wooden or plastic boards, never on glass, do not chop with them, and do not cut frozen food, food with bones, pineapples, hard cheese, summer sausage or dry salami. Handle them with care, because dropping a ceramic knife on a hard surface such as tiles or marble may chip or split the blade; minor chipping of the edge during the first months is normal and does not affect cutting. Store them in a brush block or knife holder where the blades do not touch metal items, and never test sharpness with bare hands; use a piece of paper.
