The details
A closer look
The Samura Shadow chef's knife is a multifunctional, European-style kitchen knife with a long, wide 208 mm blade. Its geometry is designed for three core tasks: cutting, chopping and shredding, so it takes on a large share of everyday prep, from meat and fish to vegetables, fruit and bread. The black-coated blade and black handle give it the black-on-black look of the Shadow series.
Blade and steel
The blade is made from a single layer of AUS-8 stainless steel, hardened to 58–59 HRC. This hardness gives you a practical balance: the edge holds up well to daily chopping, and when it needs attention, it is straightforward to restore on a whetstone. As a stainless steel, AUS-8 is corrosion-resistant, but you should still wash and dry the knife soon after use.
A black non-stick coating covers the blade and helps keep food from sticking as you cut, which is useful on a wide blade working through vegetables and meat. The double-bevel edge is ground on both sides, with an original factory bevel angle of 15–17°, so resharpening stays simple.
Handle and balance
The handle is made of black ABS plastic, a durable material that is comfortable to hold. The blade runs through the full length of the handle, which adds to the knife's strength and reliability. The knife weighs 122 g and measures 329 mm overall.
Best uses
- Chopping and shredding vegetables
- Slicing and portioning boneless meat
- Cutting and portioning fish
- Cutting fruit
- Cutting bread
Care and sharpening
Rinse the knife with hot water and wipe it dry before first use. Wash it by hand with non-abrasive materials and wipe it dry; a dishwasher is not recommended, and do not leave it in the sink for long. Cut on wooden or plastic boards, never on glass, and leave bones to a SAMURA cleaver and frozen food to a double-sided saw knife with a serrated blade. Store the knife in a brush block or knife holder where the blade does not touch metal items, use a honing rod between sharpenings and resharpen on a whetstone at the original factory bevel angle of 15–17°.

- Do not leave knives in the sink for a long time.
- Store in a brush block or knife holder so that the blade does not touch metal items.
